Recently trained volunteer, Jan Barclay has been developing a passion for serving the homeless community ever since she took part in a homelessness simulation. Jan is excited to be working with a new family as St. Luke's Lutheran Church was recently partnered. Here's what Jan had to say about a recent training she attended:
"The CPP training session provided me the information and tools I needed to become an effective volunteer in the program. I especially love the Strengths Based Model which helps families get back on their feet through positive interactions with volunteers. It stresses a 'hand up' rather than 'hand out' approach. I'm happy that our congregation is a part of this very important program and hope that others will join us in moving families into safe, affordable housing. Maybe someday, working together, we can put an end to homelessness in our community. Wouldn't that be nice?"
All of us at the Salvation Army Congregational Partnership Program are so grateful for Jan and all of our volunteer's continued support. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more and volunteering, visit the "Volunteer" section of our blog. There you can register for an upcoming training or request more information. Just a few hours per month of volunteer support can make a life-changing difference in someone's life!
